Burano

After arriving in Venice and dropping off our luggage at LaGare Hotel in Murano, we spend the morning hours in Burano. We made hundreds of pictures here and I’m sure you understand why. The most colorful island I have ever seen and definitely worth visiting. We arrived around 11 and stayed for two-three hours which was enough to get a good impression of the island.

Instead of doing the typical Summer holiday (rd. spending a week at the beach, sipping cocktails) we decided to visit three of Italy’s most popular and prettiest cities. I think it’s common sense that renting a car in Rome is not the best idea. For this reason we travelled by train. Starting in Venice and ending in Rome. With Florence in between. It was so easy! We booked the train tickets via the app of GoEuro right on spot. Within 5 minutes we booked a cheap 2 hour trip to Italy’s capital, Rome.

When visiting Rome for the first time you will have plenty of touristic attractions to visit. The centre of Rome is basically one big open air museum. We both have visited the city before, so we decided to spend only one day to visit the main attractions such as Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Altare della Patria, just to refresh our memories of the sites. The other two days we wandered around in several neighborhoods which were way more local and highly recommended.

Trastevere

We visited this area because of a wine tasting Davide arranged at Enoteca Ferrara. The area was so lively with young people! We stayed here all night, did some bar hopping at Freni e Frizioni and Meccanismo Bistrot.

Monti

We spent the first night in Monti district to have dinner at Urbana 47. Really nice place with delicious pizzas. It looks small from the outside but it’s huge. The interior design looks modern and urban. The street has many nice bars and restaurants so you will have more options to join the city nightlife, la movida Romana.

V Ponte

After visiting the Vatican we walked through the area of Ponte Sant’Angelo. I loved it! It reminded me a bit of El Born in Barcelona. Make sure you visit Gelateria del Teatro for artisanal ice cream. The same owners has a pizza to go place  (Pizzeria Del Teatro) where you can order slices with the best quality ingredients. At night we had dinner at Bar del Fico. Great for dinner but also for drinks.

Best icecream ever

Nearby our hotel we found the most amazing ice cream shop ever. Come il Latte. Close your eyes for a second and imagine this: your cone filled with warm melted chocolate, two scoops of ice cream topped of cinnamon whipped cream and a cookie covered with the same warm chocolate topping. You want to book a trip to Rome now right?

1h in Murano

During our trip in Venice, we slept in Hotel LaGare, which is located in Murano. A small island between Venice and Burano and known for its glass makers. If you are planning on visiting Burano, I would suggest you to stop over in Murano and have a walk around the island. You will be done in an hour so it easily fits in a tight schedule like ours.

venice

Our ten-day-long trip kicked off in Venice. I’ve been in town only once before, when I was about twelve years old. I didn’t remember much of it, so it was basically like visiting it for the first time. Like most of the people we went to see all the main spots like Piazza San Marco, Bridge of Sighs, Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute and the Scala Contarini del Bovolo. Every corner of this city is so extremely pretty. All the small canals and it’s bridges filled with gondolas make you feel on the set of a romantic movie. Unfortunately we only had 1.5 days to spend in Venice, Murano and Burano which was way too short. I would love to come back here to visit better areas like Castello, Cannaregio and San Polo, which are the most local among the six Venetian neighborhoods (called sestieri). People told us to wander around and get lost in the small streets but I honestly think you can only apply this strategy if you have plenty of time. If you don’t know the city, you better plan the itinerary to avoid to walk the same streets over and over again. I was really happy we had the Venice Guide of Pathport with us, which suggested us the best spots where to take pictures of Venice’s most photogenic views.

Let’s talk about food. We had an amazing breakfast in our hotel, LaGare Hotel Venezia which is located in Murano island, perfectly connected to Venice with the ferry (I suggest you to get a daily ferry ticket in order to save money and time). After a considerable walk, we managed to get some lunch around five in the afternoon at a bakery named Farini which I highly recommend. They sell the most delicious slices of pizza and serve cheap Aperol Spritz, Venice’s signature drink. At the end of this article you will find a map of the island with all the most representative places we visited. Have you been in Venice? If so, I would love to hear about your tips and favourite spots!

Ditta Artigianale

What started as a competition representing Italy in the coffee world, ended in an established coffeebrand. After winning the award, barista Francesco Sanapo wanted to do something more for his country. A Specialy Coffee Roasters which respects the traditions with an International style and an Italian hospitality. Ditta Artigianale is a gem in the beautiful city of Florence. Three locations with all their own charm. Dittasprone is a full-fledged restaurant with two floors. It’s the perfect place for a lunch after visiting Ponte Vecchio or to bring your laptop and work. Dittaneri is located in the lively street of Via De’ neri where locals and travelers are having a quick coffee break, sitting in the open windows or relaxing with a Spritz. I was immediately sold by there sleek design. Exactly the kind of place where I’m looking for during city trips.

What a better accommodation to stop over while you are in town than a modern design hotel located in one of the most creative districts of the city? Nhow Milano is a true icon of Tortona area, lively neighbourhood where it’s located.

In the middle of one of the most important hubs for designers, fashion enthusiasts and creative minds, Nhow Milano has nothing to do with a traditional hotel.
Built on a former industrial area, this eclectic and constantly evolving hotel aims to impress, entertain and inspire his guests. The concept is very unique and for those who are not familiar with it, I suggest to explore every corner of the venue. Imagine that every floor is different from the others, rich of colourful installations, experimental furnitures and visionary artwork created by some of the most talented designers around the world.

The cool aspect of all this is that the setting continuously changes design and furniture. In addition, common areas such as the signature bar and restaurant offer an international environment with an inimitable Milanese glamorous touch.

Last but not the least, rooms are minimalistic and really comfortable…and I’ve to say, there is nothing better, after a long day walking around Milan, to have a hot bath!

There’s something quite magical about visiting a city for the first time. It’s that feeling you get when you walk along the streets you have never seen before, you only have seen in photos, and when you taste the food you could only dream of. A few weeks ago we went to Cinque Terre, after three days in Milan, and it was an incredible experience. We stayed in Hotel Venere Azzurra, located in the beautiful region Liguria, north-western Italy.

From Lerici we went to Cinque Terre. By train you are able to visit all the five ‘lands’ in one day. Not if you want to hike from one to another of course. The villages surrounded by olive fields are really small and extremely beautiful (see following pictures).
